Most of the storage space on my iMac is taken up by photos, so with that and requests, I'm hard-pressed to find 19 gb more than space. I thought it would be best to upgrade first and then move the library, which turns out have been a bad decision. I have an external hard drive, I intend to move my library to after the upgrade. Meanwhile, iPhoto has prohibited access to sign on the icon and will not work. However, when I clicked on the photo icon, the migration of my iPhoto library failed with a message saying that I need 19 GB of extra space. The update itself took place without any problems. The recommended minimum free space was 8 GB and I got about 15 GB, so I thought I'd be fine. Anyone can offer me some advice on this please? I upgraded my iMac to Lion to El Capitan.
